REPTON SCHOOL NAMED 'BEST FOR SPORT' IN THE WEEK INDEPENDENT SCHOOLS GUIDE 2025
Repton School has been recognised as the UK’s leading independent school for sport, winning the coveted Best for Sport title in The Week Independent Schools Guide’s prestigious ‘Best of the Best Senior Schools 2025’ awards.
The guide praises Repton’s unique balance of performance sport and inclusive participation. Every pupil trains at least three times a week, with over 80 per cent representing the school in fixtures. Resident Team GB captains, former England internationals and Olympic-grade facilities support a programme that enables pupils to excel across all sports and at every level.
This culture of excellence has driven outstanding results in the 2024–25 academic year. Repton maintained its position as the country’s most successful hockey school, winning the U18 and U16 Girls’ Hockey National titles. In the pool, captain Eva Okaro made history at the Paris 2024 Olympics, while fellow captain Jacob Mills recorded national records and qualified for the World Championships. Rising cricket star Harry Moore signed for Birmingham Phoenix in The Hundred after representing England U19s.
Beyond competitive sport, Repton is equally committed to the personal development of every pupil. Initiatives such as ‘performance playground’ sessions – blending football with dance, yoga and martial arts – nurture physical literacy, creativity and wellbeing. House sport competitions see every pupil participate in physical activity on a regular basis with fun and camaraderie at the heart.
Mark Semmence, Headmaster of Repton School, said: “We are thrilled to be recognised by The Week Independent Schools Guide as ‘Best for Sport’. This award is a testament to the hard work of our talented pupils, the dedication of our world-class coaching team and the unique ethos we foster at Repton – one which encourages excellence, participation and personal growth in equal measure. We believe sport plays a vital role in shaping confident, resilient young people, and we are proud that this approach continues to deliver exceptional outcomes on and off the field.”
Repton School’s award will be featured in the Autumn/Winter 2025 issue of The Week Independent Schools Guide, published on Saturday 6 September 2025.
