EXTRA CURRICULAR

CREATIVITY

At Repton Prep, creative arts subjects are highly valued as part of school life. An education rich in artistic endeavour increases the opportunities for learners to engage as innovative thinkers.

ART

With access to a purpose-built Art and Ceramic Studio, pupils are encouraged to take the opportunity to engage in many creative extra-curricular clubs, from arts and crafts, and textiles to jewellery making, there is plenty on offer for pupils.

On Saturday mornings the arts also play a vital role in the Repton Plus programme of extended learning opportunities.

Throughout the academic year, Head of Art Mrs Casey sets multiple creative art and photography competitions in which pupils of all ages are encouraged to get involved. This is also supported by external competitions, such as the IAPs Art Competition, where pupils have enjoyed national success.

REPTON'S ARTIST
in residence

Our Artist in Residence augments the School’s art programme by attracting young and emerging artists, usually fresh from their MA at the most prestigious Universities, to come to Repton and share their practice. It is designed to inject the most up-to-date developments in contemporary art into teaching and learning and demonstrate to the pupils the possibilities of a career in the arts.

Repton's current Artist in Residence is Tom Voyce (2017 winner of Sky Arts Landscape Artist of the Year).

DESIGN and TECHNOLOGY

Design and Technology offers an opportunity to develop a greater understanding of the effect of technology and design on the world in which we live through an iterative creative process.

As an extra-curricular extension to D&T, the department offers selected pupils in Years 7 and 8 to enter external design competitions, such as Greenpower and Shell Bright Ideas. For Greenpower, this offers pupils the opportunity to work as a team to design, build and race their own electric car to take part in the national Greenpower F24 Electric Car Races for Schools, with the competition aiming to get young people enthusiastic about science, engineering and design.
