ALKYONA STRING QUARTET LAUNCH REPTON PREP’S NEW MUSIC PROGRAMME
Repton and Repton Prep welcomed the talented Alkyona Quartet to both campuses this week for two days of workshops and performances centred around string instruments.
The Alkyona Quartet form part of Project String Quartet, an initiative that utilises international professional musicians to educate and inspire young musicians through the power of beautiful chamber music.
It was fantastic for Arun, Aanya, Amelie and Phoenix to have the opportunity to attend an evening masterclass with the quartet hosted at Repton School. The inspiring session saw them work alongside the experienced musicians, receiving 1:1 tuition and support.
Alkyona Quartet then helped Repton Prep to launch the new whole class string teaching programme to Year 3 with some charismatic introductions to their instruments and engaging performances. This exciting new initiative offers pupils the opportunity to learn the basics of string playing and reading sheet music, as well as enabling them to collaborate with one another and pursue musical interests from a young age.
Repton Prep believes that music should be embraced as a means of expression and is invaluable in children learning how to express themselves and work with others. We are very grateful to Derbyshire Music Hub for enabling this new initiative by loaning 30 string instruments for pupils to use during their music lessons.
