REPTON SWIMMING BREAKS RECORDS AT THE 65TH ESSA NATIONAL TEAMS CHAMPIONSHIP
On Saturday 18 November, Repton’s School Swimming Team travelled to the Sandwell Aquatics Centre in Birmingham for the English Schools Swimming Association (ESSA) National Teams Championships. This prestigious event brought together the top 24 teams from schools across the country, all of whom had earned the right to compete through regional qualifications.
It was a befitting venue for the competition, as it recently hosted the Commonwealth Games in 2022.
The team's performance was nothing short of stellar, and their success was reflected in an awe-inspiring medal haul that not only exceeded expectations but also placed them at the top of the medal table. This was a monumental achievement for Repton Swimming, showcasing the dedication and hard work put in by each swimmer.
A standout moment came with Repton's first-ever Gold Medals at the ESSA. This was a significant milestone and a testament to the team’s growth, resilience, and commitment to the sport, following last year's solitary Bronze Medal. The triumph did not stop there as the Intermediate Girls Medley Team etched their names into ESSA history by breaking the Teams National Record.
Ash Morris, Director of Swimming commented on the Team’s success, “We are very pleased with the progress of our swimmers and the swimming programme. To be competing for National medals with the best in the country in such a short space of time, is rewarding to everyone who has worked so hard. For the swimmers, this is a positive platform to push on to other goals this season, with many of our older Elite swimmers aiming to qualify for the British Olympic Trials in April”.
Repton Swimming has continued to go from strength to strength under the guidance of Director of Swimming, Ash Morris. Mr Morris joined the School in November 2022 from Hamilton Aquatics in Dubai and his positive impact on our swimming programme is evident.
